Customized Assessment Centers

Resource Management Associates has been a leader in providing customized and content-valid assessment centers since its inception in 1981. Every fire and police department is unique and requires a careful study of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities that are required for successful performance in the position to be tested. RMA works closely with each department’s Subject Matter Expert(s) to ensure that the process accurately reflects the environment in which the candidates will function and incorporates the essential evaluation criteria. From small fire and police departments with less than 50 employees to departments with several hundred career employees, Resource Management Associates stands ready to create and administer a content-valid process to assist the agency.

One of the unique services that we offer is the fact that all of our assessment centers are accompanied by a digital recording of the simulations and the assessor evaluation of the candidates. The recordings of the evaluations later become the basis for providing optional candidate feedback sessions provided at the conclusion of each process. It is our belief that each process should not only provide a valid and fair opportunity for each candidate to demonstrate their ability to fill the responsibilities of the position tested, but should also provide the candidates the opportunity of improving their abilities as a result of learning from the process.

We also recognize that complacency is the surest way to invite failure and that we must treat each examination as a new challenge, taking nothing for granted, and proceeding upon a carefully established agenda, beginning with a job analysis and ending with final candidate feedback sessions. Our goal is to deliver a quality examination process that will produce the best candidates for the position and that will be looked upon by the candidates as a fair and objective way of measuring their ability to advance further in their chosen profession.

The process should be legally defensible and free from any actual or implied adverse impact against any person or group on the basis of age, gender, race, color, or creed. In addition, we scrupulously adhere to the “Guidelines and Ethical Considerations for Assessment Center Operations” endorsed by the International Congress of Assessment Center Methods. We take great pride in the fact that none of the hundreds of assessment centers we have conducted over the past 40 years have ever been successfully challenged.
